While the three refuse to enter the militia for Britain in 1757, Nathaniel unwittingly becomes the protector of a British Colonel’s two daughter and they are the target of Magua, a sadistic Huron warrior. The story revolves around Mohican Chingachgook, his son Uncas and adopted child Nathaniel Hawkeye. Set during the French and Indian War, The Last of the Mohicans tells the story of a white man adopted by the last members of a dying tribe called the Mohicans. When Hutter and March sneak into the camp of the Huron tribe in the middle of the night with murder on their minds, they are instead captured and face their own deaths. His philosophy is that living things should follow nature’s gifts, so he chooses not to take scalps, unlike compatriots Hurry Harry and floating Tom Hutter.
